Reference internal snowflake stage as source in dbt

The problem I’m having

I cannot reference internal Snowflake stages as source in dbt

The context of why I’m trying to do this

I would like to be able to query snowflake internal stages directly in dbt

What I’ve already tried

I tried to use the module dbt-external-tables without success

Some example code or error messages

Put code inside backticks
  to preserve indentation
    which is especially important 
      for Python and YAML!
